Anyone have a suggestion on where we can get some good BBQ here in Houston? We're here for a few days spending some time at MD Anderson Cancer Center and need some good Q to cheer us up!

We were in Sugarland (just outside of Houston) in June. My Texas family got together at a place called Rudy's. The food wasn't awful

Killen's is good. They also have a Steakhouse as well at another location down the road. Expect to wait in a line out the door for their BBQ. It's on 518 in Pearland, Tx south of Houston.

Killens is awesome but get there early. Not a fan of Rudy's, it's a chain with variable results. Goode Company on Kirby Dr near the Med Center is Goode and serves some of the best pecan pie with their Q. Corkscrew up in Spring is very good, but like Killens, requires you get there early and wait in line.

It's Houston Restaurant weeks and there are many fine restaurants offering a fixed menu for a heck of a deal. Restaurants and there menus are all online. Just google Houston restaurant weeks and take a look.

Rudy's can vary, but usually the brisket is better than anything you'd get outside of Texas. I have never had a bad meal there, and I have had quite good. I believe the last time I was in Houston, my best meals were there.

Killen's is the best. Get the brisket.

Killen's is the best in the area for sure. Ronnie Killen is the man. His steakhouse is awesome as well if you want a real treat. Gatlin's is also good, but they are still trying to re-open in their new location. Corkscrew is supposed to be good, but they are in the far north part of the city. Swinging Door in Richmond is good too, but that is a pretty good drive down southwest of town.

For a chain, you can do a whole lot worse than Rudy's. I have had their fatty brisket a couple of times and it was pretty decent. Goode Company can be decent as well as can County Line, but neither of them are as good as Killen's or Swinging Door.

Where is Killen's steakhouse? Turns out I'm going to Houston on Wednesday. Only be there for a few days, won't have time to hit his BBQ joint though. Any good Tex-Mex recommendations? Staying in the Webster area, near the Johnson Space Center. Was thinking of trying Papasito's Cantina or Lupe Tortilla.

for Mexican food, try El Tiempo. I always go to the location on Washington ave near I-10 inside the loop. Their locations are in the city and are a bit of a drive. El Tiempo is my all around favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere, not just in Houston.

But there should be a Papasitos closer and they are pretty good. Emphasis is more on grilled and carne asada than true Tex Mex. If you want true Tex Mex, the place to go to is Lopez in SW Houston. By true tex mex, I am talking old school cheese enchiladas in chili gravy. Awesome!!

Killens steakhouse and BBQ restaurants are both in Pearland, which is not terribly far from where you will be. Reservations are recommended.

An interesting place close to you that I love is T-Bone Toms. It is a bit of a dive. Nothing fancy. Home cooking, great chicken fried steaks. They have a killer appetizer, Armadillo eggs, which is brisket stuffed into a jalepeno and fried. Really good. They have BBQ, but I really cannot vouch for it. Most people eat the home cooked items there like Chicken Fried Steak and such. This place was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives a couple years ago.

Another place that is pretty close is Gilhooleys in San Leon. Very good grilled oysters. Very cool place, but it is a bit of a dive and San Leon is a bit of a rough place. Kids not welcome though. Don't believe they accept credit cards either. If I was staying in the area you will be in, I would personally make it a point to go to Gilhooleys. Unless you do not like oysters, then skip.
