What does everyone use to make smashburgers? Looking for something a little more sturdy than my grilling spatula.

Something like this

The real trick is to not let the meat come up off the griddle once it's smashed. If it sticks to the smasher only parts of it will be beautifully crunchy. It needs to stay 100% on the griddle after smashing. I accomplish this by using a piece of parchment paper on the smasher tool. Clean release from the meat this way. Also, when flipping make sure to really use some force to get all the crust cleanly flipped with a spatula. A perfectly griddled burger will have a nice uniform crust, but the contact with the griddle and the flip have to be done correctly.

Our hamburger shops down here use a tool like renderers use.
Appears we have smashed burgers down here
Cowgirl uses one I think.
Looks like that pictured above but its bright steel

I recently saw a smashburger burger show on Tripple-D where the cook had taken large & heavy masonry trowels with a wooden handle and cut the point off so he had what looked like a 5"-6" trapezoid to smash with. He used clarified butter to make sure it would not stick to the burger during smashing but I really like the parchment paper idea.

I've been using my spatulas. I press down with one while using the other to press down on the back of it so that it doesn't bend.

However....due to this thread I went and searched and found this. I think I'll order it just to see how it works.

Also bought some 6 inch parchment squares to go with it.......and I'm tired of cutting my own. LOL!

I have seen this idea used multiple times and you can't get any sturdier than that!

Parchment paper folded around burger, smash down with bottom of my cast iron pan. Sizzle cow sizzle.

I use a masonry trowel, cut the end off. It works pretty well.

Onion smash burgers...

I got lazy and bought the 4-5" full tang Due Buoie spatula.

I want to eventually have a masonry trowel like cowgirl.
Those are really cool.
