Greasing the hinges on my Shirley

Know that the fitting on the grease gun has to snap onto the zerk and lock on before grease will pass thru the zerk.

There are two types of food grade grease.
One is rated for contact with food and the other is only rated for unintentional/occasional contact. Neither should be needed. BTW the full contact version isn't really grease but something more akin to faux grease and the other isn't much better.

I'd find a good hi-temp grease and wipe away any excess.
Here's a good grease that's available at TSC.

Paul Shirley did a FB video not long ago where he was repairing a hinge that broke because it wasn't greased. He said the type of grease (food grade, automotive, etc) didn't matter as long as its is high temp grease. At this point I think it's a personal choice. I use high temp automotive grease and it's never been remotely close to getting on any food. The hinges don't take much grease.
