I thought 3 clicks was the industry standard.
Unless you are clicking them toward someone then the faster and more clicks the better.

My big, fearsome ferocious Rottweiler used to run away and make the “why do you hate me?” face when I clicked tongs at him.

Naturally, I did it all the time.

Unless the wife is standing nearby, then one firm sqeeze of her behind after 2 fast clicks will suffice. I like this style. I have a long pair I'm partial to.

The cheap 16" ones are the way to go, IMO, besides little hot dog tongs for things like fried tacos.

I use this massive spatula much more.

These are the ones I have, 12" & 16" can't beat em. They also have an extra heavy duty tong, that's 18 gauge if you want to splurge and spend the extra 30 cents.
