I got my 80 gal. air compressor turned into a beercan chicken/hamburger/hot dog/steak cooker and got rid of a 120 center feed that needed WAY too much work and built my 1st Reverse Flow outta a 120 propane tank and mounted them on a 5x10 trailer.
Also counter sunk a Turkey fryer propane burner to fry fish/boil p-nuts/make gumbo, etc. into the left front corner of the trailer.
Got the 120 built about amonth ago and cooked on it 4 times already.
I've never used a Reverse flow before and am impressed how it works.
I built it because my buddy has a 120 RF hybrid (he uses tuning plates instead of a single baffle plate)that I love to eat from.
BUT,I don't like the way HE cooks.Over spices things, always want to wrap and splash and that wouldn't be so bad,but uses soda or some other terrible beverage that,to me,ruins the taste of the meat and or rub/spices.
Sooo,I decided to build my own.
The 1st tank I acquired was an 80 gal. air compressor tank from the junk yard I worked at.IMO,it was too small for a RF,but that was ok,because I love to cook Beercan chicken,so I built it into a charcoal grill, knowing I was going to,sooner or later, build a 120 RF.
I didn't know a dang thing about welding, nor had any tools, but persevered, bought a couple pieces here and there when I could afford it and things came together and the next thing you know,it was built.
I had just built the 80 gal. and was recently laid off from the junk yard so a friend brought me over a large home made trailer his landlord was throwing away, thinking I could sell it for scrap.
I had thought about that for a couple days when another friend called and offered me a job at his auto repair shop.
Now that I had some money in my pocket,I had an idea to mount the 80 gal to the trailer so I could tow it to my other friends house where we have a once a month horseshoe tournament and BBQ.
Knowing there was room on this big ol trailer(the bed is 5x10,total length is close to 15 ft) to mount a 120 RF,I was eager to find a tank and get started!
I'm gonna shut up for now and try to load some pictures for you guys/gals.
Here's the trailer.Bent tongue and all,LOL.Had to cut 2 feet off it.
The 80 gal.tank the day I brought it home.
My friend for the next few months.A 3" cut off wheel.What a PITA,but it's all I could afford.(note to self-GET A DANG PLASMA CUTTER!!!)
Settled for store bought hinges.
My buddies tuning plates and it's either 8" or 10" pipe running the length of cook chamber
Some LED taillights(going to be replaced with magnetic ones)
Cadillac wheels I picked up when I worked at the junk yard
hub and bearings for Caddy,to be mounted on 3,500lb. axle(not yet purchased)
A 2,00lb spring and a 3500lb spring(for the heavier side of trailer,to offset the extra weight of RF)
24" wide by 66" long.Notice the single seam in the center? It allowed me to have a wider door than most folk.gained 2 1/2" PER SIDE,total 5 extra inches.bottom grate is 52" wide slide out.
Some might say I ruined a tank, but I wanted to pay homage to my buddies,so I used a round fire box(think I will go square next time and HECK YEAH!THERE'S GONNA BE A NEXT TIME!!!)
I also tried to emulate the large chain links used as hinges.
I ordered the wrong size.
BUT IT WORKED OUT!I'll get ya a pic of those shortly.
My dog Rufus
Heh Heh,J/K
My buddies hybrid
his large chain links for hinges(these are on the Firebox)
Propane burner being mounted
2 piece 1/4" Baffle plate for ease of installation cause I'm working alone
Both grills mounted
Also counter sunk a Turkey fryer propane burner to fry fish/boil p-nuts/make gumbo, etc. into the left front corner of the trailer.
