What to make today?
A freezer dive turned up a package of hot dogs. There was a can of beans in the pantry and potatoes that could be turned into fries. The only missing item were hot dog rolls. I've been to Market Basket both yesterday and the previous day. Lines are getting long and although another supermarket run is on the agenda this week, today is not the day.
Besides, it's Sunday aka Feed the Sourdough Starter day. We don't need no steenkin' store bought hot dog rolls. I am perfectly capable of making my own. The sourdough discard will be put to good use.
The dough after its initial rise -
Formed into dough balls -
After a short rest, they're formed into rolls -
And after some rearrangement and another rise, they're ready for the oven -
After 30 minutes of baking, they're done and looking good -
Meanwhile, out at the grill. The Blackstone was to have been used for this cook, but the fabric cover was frozen to the metal cover. I was reluctant to try peeling it off, fearing I might tear it. So the Goldens' was called into duty -
Fries were griddled on the Lodge CI Pizza Pan -
Fries were prepped like usual. Russet and a few Yukon Golds, cut into shoestrings. Blanched in heavily salted water, patted dry, oiled, seasoned and out onto the grill. The Goldens' did an admirable job standing in for the Blackstone.
Dogs and Fries served with a side of Baked Beans -
A Summer dinner served a few days before the start of Winter!
The recipe for the Sourdough Hot Dog rolls is a keeper. These were soft and so much better than any store bought hot dog bun.
Thanks for reading through to the end of today's somewhat simple Hot Dogs, Fries and Beans dinner. (And Sourdough rolls bake!)
Regards,
