Ordered my Lone Star Grillz Insulated Vertical June 30th and it was finally ready on 9/10! Couldn't get off work until last week, so I could barely contain my excitement as I drove down to to pick up my new toy. Got there just before lunch on Friday, met Chris and Amber (thanks!!!), paid up the remaining balance, and they had me loaded and ready to go! Drug it home in the uhaul, wrestled it into the back yard with some help from my brother in law, then gave it a big hug.
Did a seasoning run Saturday before I went to Jerryworld to watch the Ags beat the hell outta the Razorbacks (man, that game was a nailbiter), then Sunday was go time.
On the docket: two boneless butts from Costco, a 4 lb short rib plate from my butcher (my first go at beef ribs!), two nekkid fatties (as required by unspoken rule), a bunch of chicken breasts for lunches, beans, and mac n cheese.
Fuel: KBB and cherry/pecan for the first few hours while the butts and fatties were on, then it was hickory for the remainder of the butts time, ribs, and chicken. Ran about 250* the whole day.
Lightin' up
Butts and the required Brethren break-in fatties
Fatties ready for late breakfast
Rib plate, pre-trim
Butts, ribs, and chicken
Beef ribs! These babies did NOT disappoint!
Huge bones, and that face means I am quite happy
All plated up with a Paulaner Oktoberfest. Beans had trimmings from my homemade bacon, onion, and I tossed them into drippings from the beef ribs to bake in the LSG for a few hours. Mac was "fancy" Kraft 4-cheese that I stuck in next to the beans, with a dash of the drippings from the butts (yup, super healthy).
All in all, quite happy. LSG was super easy to trade up to from my drum. Used the water pan and liked the changes to bark formation, keeps it dark and tasty but doesn't dry out on the outside like my bark on the UDS (which has no deflector or water pan). Thanks for lookin!
