I can finally move my CG Duo.
After I got the Duo, and added the SFB, I realized "This Sucker is heavy!" The 8" plastic wheels are crap. I started searching the various forums, and saw some nice carts for the CG Pro, but nothing for this bohemeth. My searching came to an end when I received my Harbor Freight flyer. They had a 2X4 wire mesh cart on sale. The item Number is # 38137. Regularly $120, I got it for $70.
The problem with it is that the deck height was 12", and it came with 10" wheels
The deck height needs to be as low as possible, so I decided the wheels can be moved out to the sides. Since I don't weld, I figured that having a complete cart that needs some mods will be cheaper that buying all the various pieces, and having someone put it all together.
This is the cart with the Duo.
I cut the legs off at the top of the CG Duo shelf. To secure the Duo, I'll be putting a bolt through the leg, with an Eye bolt inside the leg, going down through the bottom of the cart. I'll add washers that are larger than the diameter of the leg above and below the cart deck. that will strengthen the attachment points, and close up the holes.
It doesn't have the turning radius that it did before surgery, but it allows me to manuver the grill to wherever I want it.
If you want a sharper turning radius, move the wheels out farther.
The cost of welding this is 1 Pulled Pork, a Tri tip, 1 Fattie, and a bunch of ABT's.
Other mods I have done have been using the Lowes Veggie tray to hold the coals in the SFB. I added bolts to each corner to fit onto the SFB grill rails. I've also added 1/4 inch plate steel as tuning plates. It's mass helps hold some of the heat.
Upcoming mods are sealing the smoker with Stove insulation, and adding grill level temp guages. On the Gas grill side, I'm going to use the remaining 1/4" plate and replace the 3 burner covers with it. I hope it will give the grill more mass to hold heat.
My wife gave me the Duo for Fathers Day, then she got me the cart for my birthday. She asked me if there was anything she got me I wasn't going to tear apart and change. I told her the gift was stuff that I could modify.
