What brand of grate thermometer is recommended? I assume the $5 grill replacement thermometers isnt going cut it. Also, whats the pros and cons of using something like a permanent probe thermometer at the grate level?

    Newb Question(s)

Second smoke on my UDS this weekend. First time doing a brisket and did a pork tenderloin. I've smoked before with friends and always used mustard on the brisket and a commercial rub. This time I wanted to simplify things a bit, so I went with Olive Oil as a pre-rub and ground my own black...

    Thermometer deal?

I saw this thermometer on eBay. It looks very similar to the thermoworks TW8060. Has anyone tried it or what do ya'll think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-K-J-Type-Thermometer-Thermocouple-4-Probes-/250908432932?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6b4eda24#ht_10585wt_890

Do you have a better hamburger recipe?

I just bought a weber kettle that has a thermometer built into the lid. It got me thinking that maybe I could make simple burgers better. Up until now, I just got the coals hot, threw on the burgers, some pepper, when the juices where clear and they looked good, it was time to eat. Do you...

    WSM Thermo Problems

I have the girl loaded with eight shoulders totaling about 56lbs right now. The Weber dome thermo on my new 22.5 reads about 195*. Checked with a Thermapen and a Weber digital, both read 257*. Are the Weber dome thermos worth a crap, or is the load affecting the reading? If the dome thermos are...

I've found ones that are rated for meat, and ones that are rated for the chamber, but just this one that is rated for both...

NB BD - What size Thermometer Stem

I'm almost done refinishing a NB BD I picked up on craigslist, and I'm at the part where I am researching Thermometers. Based on the posts in this forum, I'm looking at Tel-Tru and Ashcroft ( so far I like the customization options offered by Ashcroft) I haven't been able to find any sources...

    Temp problems on smoker

I currently have a 7' three door offset smoker with tru-tel gauges on each door and three rack thermometer inside. When cooking my tru-tel gauges always show temp 50 to 75 degrees cooler than the rack thermometers. I thought the problem may be the stems on the tru-tel are only 3” long and only...
