Hey guys! Since there are no competitions in Georgia in the entire month of September, I was just wondering what local contests you were looking at doing?

I haven't even looked at how far any of the other ones are in the SE, so I was hoping that someone else has already looked that over and can give me some info :becky:.

Hopefully the Whole Hawg Happenin' will be happening in Marietta the last weekend of September.

I'm still struggling with having an event here in Cleveland TN. Maybe September would be a good option. It would be at a different venue and would be a Saturday-Sunday event.

Another Saturday-Sunday contest would be music to my ears.

Whole Hawg Happenin' isn't coming back this year due to financial constraints.

Decatur (AL) Riverfest is Sept 11-12 and from what I saw when visiting last year it was an awesome contest. I'm hoping we can cook it this year.

I'll be following this thread as well for other suggestions.

Awhile ago, one of the brethren made a handy little app for searching for events within a given driving radius. Using that, these are the events that show up within 4 hours of Suwanee in September (the last 2 numbers are drive time and distance)

Decatur Jaycee's 21st Annual Riverfest Decatur, AL 09/12/15 3.93 221.7

There are a couple of nice competitions in back-back weekends in September, Beth :-D

It's a nice drive as long as there isn't a blizzard :becky:

9/4-5; Low Country Hog Fest Charleston, SC
9/11-12; Fiddle-N-Pig Shindig Fort Mill, SC
9/18-19; Tilley Harley-Davidson Biker Blues BBQ Rally and BBQ Classic Salisbury, NC
9/25-26; Butts and Beans BBQ Challenge Newton, NC

Of course I'm judging these not competing, but still they are all available! And not TOO far from Northern GA (I know as we judge a lot in Northern GA!).

FYI... The Charleston SC and Salisbury NC contests are both at Harley Davidson dealerships and are GREAT!!! Still taking apps at both as well.

Decatur, AL is AWESOME.
We've been there the last 3 years. Great comp.

Kennesaw State will be sporting a football team this year for the first time. As a proud alum, I already have my tickets for the inaugural season and will be tailgating two weekends in September.

Ha, well September in Georgia certainly does not bring blizzard like weather! (the complete opposite actually) :)

We really didn't want to do another 4 hour drive, but some of these do not sound too terrible.

Be sure and let me know if it happens. We might do that one since the July event cancelled.

Oops... i meant to say that there are a couple of nice competitions up here :-D Maybe the blizzard comment will make more sense now? :becky:

Windy City BBQ Classic on Sept. 11 & 12 and St. Charles, IL on Sept. 18 & 19.

Ha, yes it does! We would love to do a competition up that way, and every year I look to see what is over the summer and if it would fit our travel plans, but it never does. We are usually in Michigan over the 4th of July week/weekend. We'll be back to work by both of those in Chicago so unfortunately neither would work...
