My new trailer should be here in a week or so. I'm looking at generators and want something quiet but don't wanna spend a couple grand on Hondas. Is there anything close for less money? How about inverters? I seen some high wattage models on ebay for cheap but i've never used one and wonder if it would really supply enough power? Something like one of these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-CO...d2e14d&vxp=mtr Here a list of what all i'm running, not necessarily all at the same time though. 13500 AC, (3) 4ft flourescents, 1 exterior halogen, 17 cu ft fridge, guru, electric knife, phone charger What would you recommend? Thanks

Checkout the champion 2000 watt inverter generators. They are quiet, similar to the Honda's and yamaha's and they are half the cost. I have read good and bad reviews, but for something that I am gonna use a few times a year, I think they will be fine. You can also connect two of them together for 30 amp service. Sam's club has them for right around $500 dollars.
I do not own them but they are on my list to buy for my new trailer, until then I am borrowing my dads 6500 watt Honda quiet generator.

Well, the guru, electric knife and phone charger will work fine on an inverter. The rest of the items require, at a minimum, a 3,000 watt generator, especially when the compressor of the ac kicks in. You will probably run into trouble with both the ac and ref on at the same time if both compressors start. You would probably need a 4kw which has a surge capacity of 4.4kw.
Go on line and look at the amp draw or each of the items you have listed, they are available with a google search or on the attached name plate of the unit. Add up the amp draw of all the items during the start phase. Use the formula Amps x Volts = watts: ie. 1 amp * 110 volts = 110 watts. This will give you an idea of the power requirement. |

Not only that, but you have to consider the batteries required. A group 31 battery is a max of 125 amp hours. 100W @ 12V = 8amps. The inverter you posted will handle 2500W continuously so at 12V that's 208 amps, so a single battery will last about 30 minutes.
To run everything you have listed you need a 6000W generator. Look at a Kipor if you don't want to spend the money for a Honda. Here is a good chart to help you figure out the power requirements. http://powerequipment.honda.com/gene...timation-guide

I bought a Yamaha 2400, granted it was $1300, but last weekend it ran my lights, 6 Gallon Hot Water heater, Fridge, space heater, and gurus with no issues....

Get a honda eu2000 and add the eu2000 companion down the road. One likely won't carry the A/C but 2 in parallel will and you can pick them up by yourself.

One definitely won't handle the AC. At 13,500 BTU AC need 2800 watts to start up.

I have the dual Honda 2000's for my camper, they are very nice.
I could see where they would last a long time. The ability to move one of them one handed is very handy. Also there are dual feed fuel tank adapters that will make the run time MUCH longer. I bought mine from Wise sales and had a smooth transaction. http://www.wisesales.com/generators-...erators-1.html

I run the 3000is honda, its not the easiest to move, but its mounted on the front of my toyhauler.
I think its quieter than the dual 2000 series. it runs everything in my toyhauler, but i can also put the fridge on propane if it gets close. If you dont want to pay for the hondas, i also have heard the champion and its quiet, 2 hooked together might work. side note is that the 2 honda 2000 will have more power than the single 3000. Quiet power isnt cheap.

I picked up a brand new in the box Honday eu3000is for $1500. Deals are to be found, just have to spend the time and be ready to buy as soon as you see it. I missed out on a few because i waited a day or so.
I used a Champion 3500/4000 for a couple of years and would put plywood up to shield some of the noise. Or be nice and pic a spot that i could put it opposite the trailer to help muffle the noise.

We run 2 honda 2000 and have sufficient power. Will run one a/c but not 2. Best thing is they sip gas and are QUIET! Full power they use 1 qt gas each per hour. On economy mode they can run much longer. Get a marine 6 gallon tank for each and you can run for 28 hours straight on 14 gallons of gas. On economy mode much much longer. Yeah they cost more but with the price of gas you get payback and the quietness is peaceful sleepin for you and yer neighbors! :)
