there is one for sale a mere 100 miles from here, but the few comments on it i can find are not encouraging .

It's not a big red kamado, it's a Kamado Joe.

You need to do more research. Kamados are great cookers but there is a learning curve. You can't throw in a bag of KBB, squirt some lighter fluid and cook...

Slooooow down here...Akorn has a red version of theirs so this could very well be that.

Now if it's a Kamado "Big Joe" that is a true ceramic. The akorn isn't ceramic and likely to have the poor reviews the OP is referring to.

NOPE it's a chargiller, it's name is "Big Red"

OP: These are identical to the green version of the chargillers just a different color so there are a ton of people on here that have the green ones. I know there are mods that work well too like on the intake. Ask Ebijack and smoke ninja for mod info. Other than that i'm sure plenty on here can chime in on theirs.

I have an Akorn (red) and I love it. For under $300 you get a fine cooker - when the Akorn first came out they were not well sealed so many folks were user unhappy. Current Akorns are better - they work fine out of the box.
