Got an instant read thermo in the mail yesterday. Did the boil water test for accuracy, gave me 212* in about 5 secs. Just for the heck of it I checked my dual probe and the grate probe dialed in at 212* but the meat probe wouldn't go past 155* even after sitting in the water for about 2 or 3 mins. Bad probe??

most likely but i would swap the plugs and see if the temp follows the probe or the port. you could have a bad unit.

so then your original diagnosis was correct...bad probe.

I had a probe go bad on my thermopro, they sent me a new one out quickly free of charge. Give them a call.
