Found this on Craigslist in the Sacramento Area. The woman said it was her Grandparents; came from Japan from a relative in the military. Paid $120. Any information the Brethren may have on the smoker is appreciated.

does it have any markings or anything? It looks like a pretty fun find, I'm sure she'll cook up great.

Looks to be an Imperial Kamado #9, I think, and in really great condition. If it didn't come with a daisy wheel and cap, you could order BGE replacements.

HELLA nice deal. There's on on e*bay right now for almost a thousand bucks.

That thing is in great shape. I bought one off craigslist last year and the firebox was broken into at least a dozen pieces. Beef is right, don't run it too hot or you'll crack it. It's made of clay, not ceramic like the current Kamado cookers are.

Looks like my Imperial #5. Some interesting info here: http://www.kamadobbq.com/History---Restoration.html

I made copies of anything that I could print out from the Imperial Kamado website before it disappeared off the interweb. There was a ton of historical info on them. Mako and I exchanged dozens of e-mails about a couple different Kamados I had. Just like the link mentions, I had a neighbor that brought one back from Japan in the late 60's and they grilled the best food on it. Pachinko Palace, Pirates Plunder, and Uwajimayas were the kamado dealers in the Seattle area. I took a couple restored pots to the second PNW Eggfest and heard tons of stories from folks that grew up with them and those that brought them back from Japan during the Vietnam war and still cooked on them.

Go to the Naked Whiz site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/infocentral.htm on the bottom of this page you will see the Older Kamado style cooker page-check it out and download the Pachinko Palace Manual.
