Been looking at a new food saver for a while now and ready to pull the trigger, wonder if some of you guys use one of that brand, dont really want to spend more than $150.00 ish at this time, all the ones listed on their sire pretty much read the same, the company does not explain the differences from models or why they are described the same yet one is more costly. Was looking at the FS V4800 tody at Sams, seemed like a good deal from what I was looking at on Amazon ect. Any help appreciated.

This is the one I use. Its been great. I have gone through two models just like it in about 6-7yrs (features that is).

I just got my second one a couple days ago. The best part is you can stop the vacuum at any point very easily and seal away. This makes it nice for liquids or the like. It comes with a couple roles to get you started and can use any brand.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

I got a Foodsaver V3485 a couple years ago and it's been good for me. $119 and you can look for coupons etc to save a bit as well.

Comes with a couple attachments (which I rarely use) All in all a good machine for the price I think.

I have had a couple different Foodsaver vacuum sealers for personal use. I bought one at Costco (a larger version) a few months ago and sealed 2 cases of ribs at an event a couple weeks ago without problems. I'm traveling at the moment, but I think the one on this link is what I currently have:

The real test will be Thursday night when I attempt to vacuum seal 50 racks of spareribs for an event on Friday. I'll try to remember to let you know how it holds up, and confirm the model.

Got this one at Costco several years ago, and has worked great for me.

It's just a bit over your $150 budget.

I thought you had to use a commercial vacum sealer to do food for sale?

I'd imagine you are correct. However, I run a 501(c)(3) organization in Virginia that does BBQ fundraisers to help other 501(c)(3)s raise money. Virginia amended the health code last year to exempt nonprofits like firehouses and churches. Also, we are basically overcooking just before the event and packaging the food in vacuum sealed bags instead of wrapping it in foil, still within the 4 hours time frame of dropping below the 135 mark.

I have had a Foodsaver for a few years, and I love it. It's a great machine. Their bags and rolls are really expensive, so I buy a no-name brand on eBay for a lot less.

To answer the question about the V4800. I have the same version and really like it. It has a self contained retractable vacuum hose for the canisters/marinators, has a marinade cycle that works pretty good, and space for a roll of bag material. It does take about 2-3 inches more material when making a bag because of where the sealer wire is located and because it sucks the material into the sealer. Not a deal breaker, I buy my rolls of material off eBay at very good prices. It's been a good solid sealer, had it for about a year, back in the summer (still under warranty) I made the mistake of filling one of the snail canisters too full of liquid and it sucked the liquid into the pump. I contacted Foodsaver and they sent me a new one.
