There hasn't been a roll call thread yet, so that is why you haven't seen it :).

We'll be there as well!

This will be our 3rd year and Randall has never posted a team list since we've been doing it.

Anyone doing the Potluck tomorrow night?

Yes, nana puddin' :hungry::hungry::hungry:

This is our first year missing it since we cooked in 2011. Though we've never had a good finish there. So good luck to all the teams! Dave I expect weird news from the weekend.

Dropping off the trailer early this afternoon, but won't be back until tomorrow morning.

As we've never done that well competing in Cumming over the last 3 years, we decided to try out a different comp this year. However, Randall puts on a great comp at a great venue and we will miss being there. Who knows, maybe next year we'll be back!

Best of luck to all competing. Go get them Bbq Bob. :boxing:

Just saw this - sorry I didn't know you guys were there - I'd have stopped by. Next time.

BTW, this was my 2nd comp. I only cooked our chicken. The scores confuse me a bit (see below). Hard to tell if I'm doing things right - some loved it, some did not!

Scores: 33.7028, 36.00, 34.8572, 36.00, 28.56, 31.4172

A 171.977 is a very respectable score for your second comp.

The best way for someone to help you analyze the scores is for you to post all of the judges scores for taste/tenderness/appearance. This way you can see which one hurt you the most.

Also, looking where you placed helps as well. You placed near J&B's BBQ, Warren County, and Truebud. A very good showing!

Thanks - I was in Backyard division. Chicken came in 7th. Is this what you're talking about:

Place Category Judge 1 Judge 2 Judge 3 Judge 4 Judge 5 Judge 6 Table Rank
7 Backyard Chicken 9 8 9 9 9 9 9 9 8 9 9 9 8 7 7 9 8 7 191 2
Calculated Score 33.7028 36.0000 34.8572 36.0000 28.5600 31.4172

Judge Average Score 32.3857 34.8593 32.2364 34.8222 31.4222 31.3857

Look at it this way:
989
999
998
999
877
987

First score is for appearance...All 9's and one 8...they love it.

Second score is taste...8's and 9's...great job if only judge 5 had't given you that 7.

Last score is tenderness....the two sevens are not good....Judge 5 had the lowest overall score so it gets thrown out. Judge 6 cost you a higher finish.

I would say you are on the right track for chicken!!! Congrats!

Thanks! This is an interesting deal. To me it's a big disparity between the first 4 judges and the last two. I guess they do each get a different piece of chicken - maybe the tenderness was off on two pieces.

Lot's of fun at the comp, though!

That can happen depending on what you cook on. I rotate my chicken 180* 4 times while it is in the cooker, at even increments, so (hopefully) it's not cooking uneven due to differences in side to side or front to back (when I was on my stick-burner, I rotated it at least this often if not more).

A 171 is a great score in chicken, so don't be discouraged! It took us two years to figure out chicken!
