Is the $600 insulated firebox option on a Shirley worth it? Or 3/8 as good an option?

I was in the same spot. Did a poll. I went insulated. Probably overkill in Texas but I think it looks better and the paint on my firebox should last longer. If you are choosing over other options the only one I would put above it would be the cabinet doors. I even added an ash pan in the fb as insurance.

I am the one lone person out there that doesnt think its needed.

I live in Michigan and cook in the winter. Its really not much different than in the summer. It would take a long time to go through $600 worth of extra wood to offset the cost

And my firebox paint is fine after a years usage.

I would spend the money someplace else on the pit.

But I know I am the only one.
