Today's chili cookoff was to raise funds for Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run in Illinois. Each chili entry table had a Special Olympian as an ambassador. Because each one of them is a great person, we were all winners in a sense!

The awards were made by students with special needs. A local metal artist donated a flag for a raffle.

As for results, I was pleased to be the only recipient of two awards: 1st place Most Unique and 2nd place Best Chili. This was not high stakes competition, but I do credit the Brethren for this success. What made my chili tasty? Smoked Brisket and roasted hatch chiles. These are two of many things I have learned from BBQ Brethren.

Some chili ingredients: smoked brisket, roasted hatch chiles, 1 can each of spicey and reg. V8, cup of coffee, baja corn, lentils, garbanzo beans, black beans, green onions, bacon, pico de gallo with ghost pepper hot sauce, ancho chili powder, tellicherry black pepper.....

Northerners like their beans. Only one entry was beanless. I liked it! It got 2nd place Most Unique chili. :)

Awesome event. Hope you guys raised a lot of money. That flag would sell out anywhere.
