Been a while since I've updated any of my ongoing pit build pictures.. so here are a few.

Getting ready for a counterweight - but also a good picture of the prep table frame and the metal floor I put on.

Prep table - will have running water eventually.. you can also see part of the wood storage box in the back ground.

I attempted to insulate the firebox -

Ended up having to rip all that out, because for some reason, when I built a fire, it sprung the door to where I couldn't even shut it. back to the drawing board...:tsk:
 
Frame the door. Angle or box. I'm a fan of insulated Fireboxes.

I had it boxed in - just didn't take a good picture of it.
Pretty much looked like what you had.. but something tweaked with all the heat. I'll see if I can find the picture
 
This was a quick box in.. as I had a friend call and he had run out of real estate on his cooker and needed a backup ASAP.. only pic I have of what I did. was a lot harder to rip it all out than weld it in!

Put angle in an X on outside of door or in a sq/rectangle on inside of door so it goes into the firebox when closed.

Wait a second - you are saying the firebox caddywamped? Need some bracing 'teen the two boxes. That link is not mine or my build - it's Muscrats build - he has built several insulated firebox offsets.

I guess the box was what caddywamped.. I took out the insulation and inner sleeve, lit a fire, and the door straightened itself out.

I'll look at more bracing.
 
Ok.. totally ripped the old door off and built a new one.

New Insert

Insert in (wrapped in Rock Wool) .. had to use the 'persuader'

New door - put a 'split damper' on it. thought maybe I could keep the airflow centered. Plus with a full slide, I was losing about an inch of the opening.

Braced it, because it was sucking in at the middle...

So, with the little fire.. 6 small pieces of white oak and a small pile of kingsford.. about 2 hours in and I'm still sitting at about 265 with no added wood or charcoal!

I think I'm gonna like this :)
