Traveling North from Florida to NY on Saturday. I miss the Georgia pig for those who know it. Does anyone have a suggestion to get my southern Q fix? Thanks.

Scott's BBQ, it's about 50 miles off 95 in SC.

I tried Memphis BBQ last time I was in NC and it was pretty decent, but not really southern Q.

Also really enjoy Q BBQ in Richmond, but I wouldn't categorize them as southern, just really good. They have a convenient location on route 1, about 2 minutes off I95:

I've also enjoyed Dixiebones. It's a bit further north and a bit further off the highway in Woodbridge. It's about the furthest north BBQ on that route that I have tried that is decent. It is more of a Georgia style than Carolina. The Woodbridge location is better than the Fredericksburg location, or at least it was a few years back. The Fredericksburg was more of an outlet.

Just off I-95 in Santee, SC (last exit before you cross Lake Marion - exit 98 is "Maurice's Piggy Park" that is pretty typical of SC Mustard Style BBQ.

In Lumberton, NC is "Fuller's BBQ" - a buffet with passable BBQ. Further up in Fayetteville is "Memphis Barbecue Company" that is definitely NOT any resemblance to North Carolina BBQ, but it is dad-gum good (Melissa Cookston and Pete are the owners - world champions in competitive BBQ). Around Wilson is "Parker's" and "Bill's" that are okay. If you see a "Smithfield's Chicken & BBQ" it is a chain that is typical of "Eastern North Carolina" style FLAVOR (but NOT cooked over charcoal or wood).

Virginia has "Q BBQ" around Richmond (as Gore has mentioned) that is really pretty decent (owned by Tuffy Stone - another MASTER of the competition scene).

I truly hope that you find some great spots! Hopefully, you will tell us all about them!
Good luck and ENJOY!!!

I enjoy Shuler's bbq in latta sc. It's only 3 minutes off 95. It's a bbq buffet but a dang good one with fried chicken and pork chops for lunch and dang tasty ribs for dinner. Both have pulled pork.

I agree with Shuler's. Easy to get to. Good food. I've only been at dinner time so I had to settle for ribs instead of pork chops. :icon_smile_tongue: Dessert is included.

Lol! I hit the lunch on the way to the beach and the dinner on the way from the beach. They're prices are crazy cheap too.

Had Wiley's championship BBQ in Savanna GA. It was good. Rib meat was fall off the bone and almost like pulled pork which I know would upset some folks. Had good flavor though. I'm glad I stopped but wouldn't return.
