mold or fungus on firewood

Ive noticed some white mold or fungus on my firewood. I have also seen some brownish colors along with orange too. Some of it looks like a mushroom type of growth. Is this wood okay to use? Will it just burn off? I was concerned about it posing health risk.

Mold or fungus on firewood? If I had to choose I would go with fungus. Just seems like it would be higher in fiber and might be a bit milder tasting. On a serious note it seems that the Brethren are divided on whether it is ok to use as is. Here is one thread you may want to check out.
