So I noticed they are having a cool Black Friday sale. This is great. However, I don't really know the difference between the models.

I'm wanting to know the difference between this one

http://www.foodsaver.com/vacuum-sealers/foodsaver-professional-vacuum-sealer/FSFSSL0320-000.html

and this one

http://www.foodsaver.com/vacuum-sealers/the-foodsaver-gamesaver-sport/FSGSSL2235-000.html#start=4

What does the more expensive one do that the cheaper one doesn't? In my household it's me, the wife and two little boys (that will be big hungry boys in a few years). Just want to make sure I'm getting the right model.

All I'm seeing is the Professional has an extra wide sealing strip and a couple more lights. Oh and heavy duty repetitive sealing.

Would the smaller one be able to seal up a large pork butt? If it's large enough and seals my food properly, that's really all I need it for.

So if the more expensive one has heavy duty repetitive sealing, does the cheaper one not seal as well, therefore the food won't last as long?

All this is, is on the higher end models you can seal say 30 bags or more with no issues. Where the lower end models get "hot" and need a cool down period between sealings. I have one that is over 10 yrs old and it seals fine. After so many (say a dozen) I have to wait about 20-30 seconds because the seal bar is too hot. Not a big deal. We use ours every week and have a low end model.

Food saver Game Saver Titanium

I have the high end 15 inch version of the food saver titanium it can do up to 100 seals in a row and can do double seal strips on each bag

If you happen to see a deal on that model I would recommend this one

Think of it as the Yoder or MAK version of a food saver

I would be shocked if I ever had to seal more than five things in a row. Looks like I will get the cheaper model.

I had a hand me down original food saver that I got in 06, I have no idea how long it was in use before that and I cant exactly remember when my mom got it but even then she got it used. Well I had to lay that one to rest in the summer of 13, she put up a good fight for the years we did use her. After months of ranting and raving over which one to buy and the prices of them, again my mom came to the rescue and for my birthday she picked me up one of the zip-lock ones from wally world, I think it was on sale for 29.99, anyhow she told me that I could use this one for now and it will buy me time to decide which one I want. This thing is so very basic, and simple but I have been using it since July of 13, and I almost hate to say it but it is at least as good as the original food saver. I know that since the original there have been many advances and neat features, but lets face it, Im vacuum sealing meat, and as long as it does that properly Im happy. I use this one at a minimum of twice a month, and during the summer between bbq and fishing it can be as much as every weekend, and the bags are cheaper.

I have a FoodSaver whitch will seal up to 11" bags. I dought you would get a LARGE pork butt in an 11" bag.

I have moved up to a Wesson modle that seals 15" bags and have to really work to get an 8-10# butt in one.

FoodSavers are nice you everyday use.

I've used a foodsaver sealer for years and was always pleased with it. A latch broke on my old unit so I looked at the newer models. I finally settled on this one -

http://www.foodsaver.com/vacuum-sea...n-1-vacuum-sealing-system/FSFSSL4865-DTC.html

It's the most versatile and most used kitchen tool in my kitchen. This link offers the sealer with lots of additional items, all worthwhile. You can also just buy the sealer alone (but you'll probably get the other items as you continue to use it) Watch the videos on the link page. You wouldn't be disappointed in buying it.

thanks so much for posting this thread....ordered that professional one you linked in the first post! :thumb:

For no more difference in the price, I would get the heavy duty one over the other. It will more than pay the difference in price down the road. You can make your own bags from the rolls, and with some creative carving, get your larger objects to fit as needed. However, you can buy pre made bags from Amazon much cheaper than you can make your own bags. Get the Weston brand bags as they are cheaper and work just as good as the Foodsaver brand bags. You will find yourself using it more than you think once you have one.

I too have been wanting a vacuum sealer since I got into smoking protein. I have looked and researched and I think I am going to invest in this one:

I like the 12" seal bar. What I like about it the most is you can buy parts individually in case it breaks down on you in the future. The ones you posted seems like it will serve the purpose.

I dont have those two but i do have their higher end model and the entry level one. The entry level model looks exactly like the gamesaver one linked except black. Both do the job but the entry level one is much more finiky to use. You have to manually clamp the lid over the bag and if the bag isnt in the right position it does pull vac correctly. The more expensive model i have you just stick the bag in the slot and it does the rest. the professional model is still manual latching but seems to be a different mechanism than the clam shell gamesaver model.

GATABITES

Yes the Vac-Master Pro is a great heavy duty machine. Weighs significantly more than FoodSaver, which is the down side as it cannot fit neatly in a cabinet or drawer. I keep my Weston which is similar on a 4 wheeled cart and store the bags on the shelf below in a bus pan. Wheel it to the counter and seal away, works great for me.

You are correct the FoodSavers are not repairable nor do they sell replacement parts.

ButtBurner is right, it's an awesome deal for $199.00, free shipping, and free accessory kit.

I was just given (yesterday) a FoodSaver 4435 from a fellow Aussie that's moving back home. It certainly looks like an upgrade from my original one.

Foodsaver also has the v3240 on sale for Cyber Monday. I just purchased this for 90 bucks USD after tax and free shipping. Good reviews on Amazon.
