this was a recipe in a recent southern living magazine that i wanted to try. in the recipe, they used guinness, but i wanted a fuller tasting stout, so i went with north coast old rasputin russian imperial stout. the recipe also called for a slow cooker/crockpot, but i decided to use an oven instead. i could have pulled out an outdoor cooker, but due to the fact that i was only braising, i opted to stay inside. the only difference between anson mills grits and quick grits are the size of the grit. the quick grits cook in half the time, or about 20 minutes, if soaked overnight.

Gawd darn I love me some grits. Don't get why some folks don't like them. They suck up the flavor of whatever you pair with them and that looks fan-farking-tastic.
