Hello everybody,

I'm Martin from the Netherlands, Europe and I've been grilling and BBQ-ing actively since 1991 I think, when I had a student chamber with a small balcony. My first real BBQ/grill was on highschool though when I was selected with some others to arrange food for a 100 people on a camp.
Not knowing how to cook, but having seen my father grill since I can remember that seemed the only safe option.

I've been using a variety of grills and started using a Weber Smokey Joe some 15 years ago. After 3 years I upgraded to a normal size kettle and as it is getting tired after a 1000 uses. So, it's time to move on to the real thing. :)

The real thing in my case means I'm ordering a Good One Open Range as we only have a small garden and I don't have the room for both a Grill and a Smoker.
Pellet Smokers would've been tricky as I can never be sure that I'll be able to import the pellets for years to come, and charcoal is easy to get all year around.

I don't expect i'll be very active on the forum as I don't know the brands, restaurants etc. I might have some recipes you don't have, but it can be tough for you guys to get the ingredients I imagine, so don't expect wonders in that department either. :)
Even the way meat is cut is slightly different from country to country.

And that's all folks!

PS yes, I did the Looney Tunes referency on purpose. No need to thank me. :p

Welcome to the forum from down here in Victoria.
Nice friendly bunch here that are very sharing with information.
Enjoy your time here,I sure have

Welcome to the forum Martin, glad to have you join us and hopefully take part in the other forums. You have had quite a journey in BBQ to get here, but you are not alone, we have several active users from your country.

We don't have a lot of rules here other than spam and advertising are not permitted, the rest is just common sense, courtesy, and mutual respect for one another.

You'll find a great group of people here with a willingness to help and guide you, regardless of of how simple or how complicated you think your question may be. You'll also find that there are many ways to achieve great food, there is no single "cookie cutter" method as some have been conditioned to think. You'll just have to try a few different methods and soon you'll master the way that works best for you.

We'll be here to guide you and answer your questions as you begin your journey into smoking and BBQ. Pretty soon you'll go from asking questions to posting pictures of your progress, and we will all share in your experience as true Brethren.

We have many different forums here.... Below are just a few of them.

For discussion on BBQ/Smoking related topics, we have the "Q-Talk" Forum. This is a good starting point for all new Brethren.

For those who are interested in competing, We have a "Competition BBQ" forum.

We also have a "Catering, Food Handling and Awareness" and "Catering, Vending and Cooking For The Masses".

For general non BBQ related talk we also have "The Wood Pile" forum.

I hope to see you in the "Q-Talk" forum soon. You'll find help on almost every topic from cooking your first Pork Butt to curing and smoking your own ham and bacon.

If you can't find the topic you need help with, or have questions about a specific topic, just start a new thread in the related forum.

There are many members with years of experience that are willing to answer your questions and share their knowledge to guide you in the right direction. Collectively there is a wealth of experience and knowledge among the membership, including you. Don't be afraid to jump in there and share your knowledge and your experiences as well.

Hey, Martin! I have friends in Northern Germany so maybe I can infect them with the BBQ virus as well! Klaus loves good food, so why not?

Welcome to the forum Martin! There are a few other members from the Netherlands here. Brethren Phubar is also a member of the Lowland Smokers BBQ team in the Netherlands. Looking forward to your input here.
