Use this thread to map to threads or posts you feel can be important to members, in order to guide them like a roadmap into the Throwdown forum. These can be helpful tips (like how to take a farking picture), epic dishes, or classic posts/threads that seem to live forever.

Give the post a brief description of the important topic(s) within the link(s).

Find the thread or post, copy the URL from the address line in your browser and paste it into a post in this thread.

Although these posts have links to some of the better threads in our forum, it by no means is all inclusive. Use our advanced search feature and search for keywords in 'titles only' to find loads of info on all topics, or perform a tag search to find helpful topics.

For clarity, posts will occasionally be combined to keep things organized.

OK, I've got this thing started out with the links above.

This will reduce the clutter of so many sticky threads, and also make for a very quick way to find the info you are looking for.

If there are any other things you would like to include in the Roadmap, please make a post providing the links.

If anyone has questions about the Throwdowns that they would like answered, please feel free to start a thread in the Throwdown forum asking your question.

Cooking with the Master

The "Cooking with the Master" series came about on a whim. It is modeled on a cooking show conducted by an egotistical Master and his goofy servants. During the series, a number of themes have occurred, including lack of audience, lack of interest, lack of budget, and a clever squirrel who will one day take over the world.

It took shape during the "Beer, Wine, and Spirits" TD. At the time Fatties were at the height of fashion and it seemed appropriate to make a "fattie-stein." The play on words was too good and we had to make it happen. I believe episode 1 is still my favorite.

Other episodes followed, primarily within the Throwdowns. After a while I had trouble finding them, so I started posting these separately -- the series is tagged now, but there is still some searching to do to find some of the early ones. To make it simple, I'm linking what exists to date here:

Episode 2: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1199175&postcount=77

The Sous-Transmorgraphier first appeared in Episode 3. Smokey Al Gold made the first guest appearance right in the midst of the infamous chicken-burger fiasco of which much has been written. I thought he would be a fine guest. I PM'ed him and he sent me a picture to use. Since then, he has acted as both a friend and an arch-nemesis of the Master, by creating a competing (successful) show on the Kettle Network. "Al" has been one of my favorite characters, probably because of his complexity.

Episode 3: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1253317&postcount=140
Episode 4: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84703

Episode 6: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86971
Episode 7: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88626
Episode 8: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94023
Episode 9: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94687
Episode 10: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95412
Episode 11: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96562
Episode 12: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103141
Episode 13: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116696

At this point, I was pretty bored with the series and figured it ran its course. I'm not exactly sure how it happened as I was sleep-deprived at a conference in Europe at the time, but Chris asked if I'd mind if he wrote one of these in the series. Mind? Why would I mind? It's not like more than 10 people even read these and the series was largely for my own entertainment. I thought it was a great idea. What resulted were some of the best in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed what he put together:

Episode 14: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129469
Episode 15: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132275
Episode 16: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132423
Episode 17: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132423

Finally though, we thought it would be best to kill off the whole thing. The series had definitely jumped the shark. This was going to be the last episode, ... ever! Chris had the honors:

Episode 18: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133394

Somewhere in an alternate universe a few more episodes appeared:
Episode 19: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152688
Episode 20: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156000

Whether there will be any more is a question mark. If anyone has a particularly goofy idea for a cook and wants to document it with a bunch of misfits on a dysfunctional cooking show, please feel free to do so. I'll sit back and enjoy the fun.

I love the idea of letting other people write their own "Cooking with the Master" shows. Someone other than me that is!:becky:

Hey....now that I freed BBQ Grail up from those pesky MOINK Certificates, maybe he'll make us a nice "Captious" episode?

I tried that Cooking with the Master thing, it's not as easy as it looks.

Yeah, who's in charge of that list? I got 2 zero's for cooking chicken, working on a third as we speak. :thumb:

Vote results are no longer tracked, unfortunately. It is up to each of you to keep track of your own results and such. We will announce winners, and put them in the Hall of Flame (2012 in progress), but that's it.

Just so I have this straight. I entered 6 dishes into the noobian vs veteran's and got 4 zero's, but the way I understand it is if any of your dishes got a vote then none of the zero's count. Correct?

I'm not sure why I'm asking you since your new around here, but hey, if you read the rules I'll accept your answer.

I think we can look towards mathematics for the answer.

You got four zero's and two non-zeroes, so the sum of your votes was not a zero. Assuming of course that all of your dishes add up, otherwise the summing methodology may not be appropriate.

Alternatively, if one considers that multiple entries would truly be multiples, then taking each vote tally and multiplying would result in a total of zero votes. But I think we all know that we never multiply vote totals because that would give people with multiple entries a major advantage so long as none of there dishes receive zero votes. I mean, if they get 9 votes on one dish, 3 on another, and only two on a third dish, that is a total of 54 votes, putting them right into contention.

Equally, if votes were added, as suggested in the first example, that too would give multiple entries an advantage (even when we're doing sums and not multiples). So clearly even if one's dishes do seem to add up, they simply can't be. Likewise, even though they are multiple entries they clearly are not multiples either.

So, obviously, what we are lacking is perspective. We need to look at ones dishes (multiple or otherwise) as one great big hole. That's right, A HOLE!:heh: oops, I meant WHOLE!

Keep in mind that dishes only take on the properties of a hole when there are zero's, perhaps because 0 looks like A HOLE!:heh: Without a zero involved, there is no way for the set of dishes to have properties of A HOLE...I mean whole.

So, as A HOLE, you had 4 out of 6 zero's, which can be simplified to 2/3 of a zero, meaning you did not quite achieve zero, you were only partway there.

Now for you farking idiots out there who are going to try and farking claim that 2/3 of zero is illegal, I assure you it is perfectly legal ( in some states), and you only incorrectly believe that division by zero is illegal (or even bad) because you rely too much on calculators and/or computers and are not fully comprehending mathematics and the reality of the actual validity and proper healthy usage of dividing by zero. You have just been brainwashed by "the system" to believe this is bad for you and should therefore be illegal.

Even if this is confusing to you and you think division by zero should be illegal or bad or whatever, it should still be painfully apparent that you truly only achieved 2/3 of zero, thus you did not fully equal zero, and there it is, clear as farking day contrary to what you may perceive to be reality.

Just ask Gore.

I'm just too confused now :pout:

I'm going back to the Woodpile where the sane people are :bolt:
