Hi all! As the title states, this is my first real post besides cattle call. I wanted to show everyone what I am smoking on. It's something that I decided to make when my Dad gave me an empty keg that was given to him. It's kinda ugly... and unique. I made one this small because I wanted it to be portable when we do all of our camping, and our camping season starts in a month or so here in Florida. So when I told my dad I was going to make a smoker out of it, he was also kind enough to buy all the doodads to get it going. He Googled other keg smokers and found the one where the guy cut it in half and used a dinner plate rack. That's a great idea, but I figured I'd make it more difficult than that. I combined that idea with another one i saw where someone had a corny keg they were welding that to the bottom of a half barrelI, and used it as a firebox. I wanted all the room in the keg to smoke with, and also wanted indirect heat, but I don't have a welder, and I've never used one either, so that might answer any questions you might have like, Why the heck would you do that this way? I used fireplace gaskets for the top of the propane tank firebox, and around the top of the keg to help seal the lid because I thought it'd be cool to reuse the spear and top cutout as a lid. I've done a test run and my first actual smoke, which I will post separately. I've been using bricks on the bottom to block direct heat and as a nice buffer for lifting the lid. I really can't believe how efficient it is too, I was getting a solid 8 hours of 250 degree heat on about 5 or 6 pounds of charcoal, and I can probably double that comfortably. I'm using magnets to cover the intake holes and control the heat. My next step is add a couple holes at the top and put a bar across to hang ribs on using s hooks, Pit Barrel Cooker style, because there's not much rib space as it is. If you guys have any suggestions or tips, I would greatly them. So, without further ado, here ya go:

Interesting cooker! Looking forward to seeing it in action. Welcome to the forum!

Pretty cool. I'm working on converting a keg to a mini-UDS as well, but the firebasket will still sit inside of the keg (for now).

I like the re-purposing of the spear. Can't wait to see action shots.

Now that sure puts the U in UDS but man that just goes to show anything can be cooked on. That is pretty dang cool!

Would love to see some food Pr0n.
