can anyone recommend good hot food gloves? I bought a pair of

Steven Raichlen Insulated Hot Food Gloves and not impressed. #1 they aren't big enough. #2 after a season of comp bbq the rubber/plastic is now really hard and starting to crack. What options are out there that are a quality product and fit big hands. Many of us BBQ guys aren't small guys.

I've switched to cheap cotton gloves covered with latex gloves for comps and vending. That way I can avoid the mess. Not as insulated as other gloves but it works for me.

Buy wool gloves and then use nitrile gloves over them. You get better finger dexterity control this way over the hot food gloves that get slick when handling food and harden as they age. I have pulled out the grates from my Weber kettles and UDS with just the wool gloves and nitrile gloves on (cant hold the grates for extended amount of time, but enough to pull them out and put them down) They are work great and i swear by them, a lot of comp teams swear by them as well.

I have had these Neoprene High Heat Gloves for 2 years for moving meat in and out, moving around on the shelving of the smoker, and they are great.
Durable, high-quality, all-around Neoprene Gloves protect your hands from high heat. I only use these for use in the smoker...

However after the meat has rested I use the same as Aawa listed above.

They also have Neoprene Double Insulated Gloves

These Ansell 19-024 Neoprene Insulated Gloves give your greater dexterity & protection from high temperatures. Made of neoprene with the comfort and heat-resistance of a soft, removable thermal liner they are rated to protect from intermittent contact with hot surfaces up to 400F. Perfect for all uses from cold meats to hot rotisserie ovens and racks of barbecue! Gloves are 18 inches long and sized to a 10.

Just a question have you run into any issue with people being allergic to latex since you use latex gloves? Or are you using Nitrile gloves and just call them latex?

I use these for hot food http://www.texasbbqrub.com/bbqgloves.htm

I like these because they are washable.

I agree with aawa about the wool and nitrile gloves for dexterity. I use these for wool gloves

Staples will ship to a store for free. Also washable.

For the nitrile, I don't go cheap (but I wait for a sale). These are the best nitrile gloves I have ever used.

Simply Marvelous has (or used to have) some nice ones that I've bought before.

Like ShencoSmoke, I've gone to cotton gloves with nitrile gloves over them. You can double up on the cotton gloves for more insulation. Work great and very cheap and washable too.

I like the white knit cotton gloves like Big Poppa Smokers has. I think a 12 pack is like $6.

I get mine at Tractor Supply for 3.00 they are Green not Black after a year and 1/2 they still look new.

I use these. They have lasted awhile now, but are cheap enough to replace when needed. But then again - those are the ones you already use.

I also use gloves from tractor supply. These are the same from Amazon. I learned Wed they are good for quickly picking up beef ribs from amongst burning charcoal.

I use knit cotton gloves with nitrile over them as well and its a great solution for pulling pork, checking rib doneness, etc. And Wampus, Big Poppa isn't the only place to get white cotton gloves. I think I know another place :)
