I did a little searching and couldn't really find what I was looking for, but has any one put some type of lighting inside their pit? Most of my cooks start at around 0430 and I have been using a flood light but I've been wondering if anyone has mounted something like a oven type bulb in their pit?

If it can be done inside an oven, and it is, it should be able to be done inside a pit. But, I have no idea how. What I would like is a smoke evacuation system in my pit. That can be done too, but I don't know how.

Perhaps, figure out how it's done in ovens and use that system?

I have started using the strap on headlights as mentioned above. The one's you can adjust the aim up and down are awesome. Also I think the 150 candlepower or up is needed. The color is different. But you can see!

The problem you will run into with a light in your pit is that it will get build up from the smoke on it.
Try doing something on the outside that can be adjusted to move in and out of place.

^^ I agree if you put it inside after a couple of cooks it will be covered over so you won't be able to see. Maybe mount a light that has a flexible neck on the outside that you can bend or adjust so you an see inside.

Weber has those lights that mount to the handle of the lid and when you flip the lid up it shines inside

I would get a quality headlamp...not your Wally World specials...they are not even close to a good one in performance. I have several of these that I use constantly. Light is always right where you are looking. Friends may make fun of you for wearing it...then buy one for themselves when they see how handy it is! Things are indispensable setting up camp in the dark...or cooking in the dark!

My new favorite is the Black Diamond Storm Headlamp

Check out demo vid on this link.

Great brightness and beam focus. Red night vision mode which I use a lot walking around camp talking without blinding everybody...GREAT LiGHT!

Another good one is Petzl Pixa 2

Nice tough cased light...light lens flips back while storing to protect itself in glovebox preventing scratches. I keep one of these in all my vehicles. Great for working under the hood and flats in the dark.

If you are going to just own one...get the 2014 model Black Diamond Storm Headlamp.

If you like Orange color...just found one for 40 bones shipped. Other colors a little more...I just snatched me up another one in orange...great color if you are half blind like me when rummaging thru stuff looking for it! I think I have an addiction to headlamps :icon_smile_tongue:

Not to mention if you break the bulb, you'll get some crunchy BBQ.
I think it will gunk up on the 1 st cook, my oven therms sitting on the grate do.
