I haven't shopped for a pid in quite a while, but am in the market again for my grandfathers Christmas present. Key here is simplicity, obviously no networking capabilities.

What controller would you guys recommended? I'd like an LCD screen to display the temp, up and down button to change the temp, food probe would be a bonus but not a necessity. Again, simple to use is key. Thanks!

The Auber ButtBurner listed looks like a nice simple inexpensive unit without a lot of extras.

There are many other choices.......

I personally prefer BBQ-Guru DX2...... But I have a much larger smoker.

It has separate pit and meat probes and will ramp the pit temperature down as you approach the finished temperature of the meat to prevent over-cooking.

While it has several options, once you set them you never have to go back into set-up again. To change the temperature just click the up or down button. To view temperatures it will display the last button pressed (pit or food), simply press the other button to view that temperature. You can make it flash between the two if you prefer.
