I want to cook a butt (usually 9-11lbs) and some ribs at the same time this weekend. If I could rig up a small shelf to go over the butt, I could drape the ribs over it and have good use of the space. As it is, my rib rack is huge, its the webber one with I believe, 5 slots, and ribs tend to be long so they take up a lot of room. I'm kinda thinking cutting a 18" grate and using some threaded rods/washers to make this.

I turn a 2nd 22" grate upside down on its handles, and put a chunk of wood under the opposite ends, doubles your real estate.

I take the grate from my 18 & set it up on empty vegetable cans. I set them up like a tripod. A little clunky, but does the trick.

Bricks or half-bricks make good safe risers for a second shelf, and provide a decent spacing.
