13th overall for a rookie is very respectable!

Thank you Sled! There is no way we would have done that well if I hadn't found this site. All the hints and pix made it a lot easier.

We had such a great time - we really thought we didnt have a chance. With all the big rigs and my 3 little WSM's and one kettle. Those Texas BBQ guys had a monster set up. Good Lord! I timed the chicken wrong and didnt do well in that category. I got nervous with the ribs and pulled them too soon. I was worried about the clock being face down when we got up there....

My husband got to chat with the VA BBQ Prirates. Really great people.

We have Dover on the schedule so hopefully we get to meet more of the Brethren!

All i cook on is 3 little wsms. In a comp big rig means nothing more than making up for a lack of.......:tongue:

We cook on 3 WSM & a Kettle and we look at it as an advantage. Want to cook at very diferent temps or need to rush just one meat? Do it. Want hickory on your brisket and peach on your pork? Do it. Want to practice at home - and don't have the space for your huge cooker?

If you're looking for something before Dover consider Pickin' in the Panhandle in WV in early Sept.

Really? I had no idea WSM's were so popular on the comp circuit. I love mine and for the very reasons that you state. The spicewine type of cookers are really cool too. And then there are those rotisserie ones. GOD there are just too many to choose from but I guess if you aren't catering then its over kill? Maybe??

I saw the one in WVA but will be in Texas that w/e. That would have been a really cool one to try. Very cool motto!
