Got the urge to try a pellet pooper so sold the primo oval xl and ordered a YS640. 3 weeks to the day, fedex showed up:).

Did recommended burn in and cooled it down and then did some Prime fillet and ribeye. Indirect for 30 minutes and seared two minutes per side. Temps went from 225 to 450 in about 7 minutes but I should of let the grill grates get hotter as I like a lot more char...lesson learned. Recruited the six year old as my temperature assistant

Woke up early and did some bacon and a naked fattie to really get the seasoning going. Wasn't paying attention and burned bacon on bottom left

Overall I like it, but seems I have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me with my first pellet cooker. Will be doing butts and baby backs this weekend, so we will see how that goes

Very nice. Love mine. Did you install the felt on the door or is that something new they come with?

Welcome to the club! I'm sure you will enjoy it every time you use it.

Thanks! The felt came like that..maybe something new they are doing?

Mine didn't have it. I imagine this will reduce smoke/heat leaks out of the chamber and thus possibly reduce pellet consumption.

Working from home this morning, so thought I would try some wings. Used Oak Ridge HDD and smoked for about 45 minutes at 225, then bumped temps to 300 and finished over the flame. Easily top 1-2 wings I have ever made Grin...not sure if my previous wings on other cookers sucked that bad, or these were that good?!? I will take it though!

Also, played with the sliding deflector and monitored the temps. Having it all the way out (to the right) yielded about 15-20 degree hotter temps on the right side. 5 inches in from that yielded very even temps across the grates (both levels actually)..pic below. Sliding the plate to where it was about 5 inches OUT from the left yielded hotter temps on the left and middle side. Works slick..takes about 15 minutes for temps to stabilize when making the adjustments.

The Yoder continues to impress...

Congratulations, that's a sweet looking cooker.

Thanks all! It's been fun so far. 18lbs of butts and 3 racks go on tomorrow morning so we will see how it goes. I've been using the bbq delight hickory I got with the pit, but have cookinpellets hickory and lumberjack hickory coming. I'll try them and see which I like best and then order a half ton. Seems like I'll be going through pellets pretty good so buying in bulk makes sense to me

Couple of butts on and ribs to be added later after kids soccer game. Being able to leave the house for four hours for their soccer games and still be cooking is looking pretty good to me. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result of the first true smoking session with the yoder (taste, texture, appearance, smoke taste, etc).

First long cook with the pellet pooper. Butts on at 5:30 at 180-200 for 3 hours and then up to 250. Added 3 racks of bb's around 1. At 5, alarm went off on Tappecue that temp was dropping...I ran him out of pellets:(. Got it going again and ramped up temp to 300...ended up panning and finally pulling at 194...didn't have time to rest it as friends were over for dinner and it didn't pull well so I ended up chopping it ala eastern Carolina style. Flavor was very good, with a very good amount of smoke (ceramics, stick burner and stumps in the past), so I was pleased with that. Didn't get any pics though. Ribs turned out very good, but reinforced my opinion that spares are way better:). Pellet poopers sure do put out a smoke ring

Did some burgers and cooker continues to impress. Although I need to get these grill grates down better. Temp showed over 500 on the grates, yoder was at 400, but not enough for me...need to try again about 100 degrees hotter. The smoke shot was at 225

Those burgers look perfect to me...plenty of color and just the right amount of char.
