The El Cheapo Gourmet

Has anyone put a brinkmann lava pan with 3 legs as the base of an el cheapo brinkmann. Seems like it woukd be a good bootleg way to make a gourmet for $50. 40 for the ECB at HD, and 10 for the electric lava pan, and maybe $0.75 for a knockout plug to close the hole the brinkmann lava pan has. Any thoughts.

Been Done befoe, I actually prefer the Brinkman GO GRILL it is the bottom Section of the Gourmet

I would do it. I made my mini-wsm out of a Brinkmann portable grill instead of a SJ. The Brinkmann has an ash pan, taller lid and the intake has a handle to control it from the front of the grill. I am sure it will not last as long as a Weber but I paid $9 for the grill and $20 or so for the pot. It works for me. Brinkmann gets a bad rap for some of the cheap stuff they make but that doesn't mean you can't mod it to fit your needs.
