Congrats to Kit and Jay. This was a tough contest. We cooked some of our best ever but the points were tight in a lot of areas. Some big names were near the bottom - mostly thanks to Table 5.

congrats to all!

did anyone else hit the same table 2x? it wasn't table 5 thank goodness but it wasn't much better...

nice ob by kirby in his first pro division!

had lots o fun next to old virgina smoke!!

Table 5 was brutal. With the scores they gave I hope no one went home sick.

Really liked the set-up at Woodstock. My camper is full of pea-gravel now, and the walk to the judges tent was a hike, but I liked the set-up.

Good job Deguello!

Since I brought up table 5's scores, here they are so no one thinks this was that "proverbial bad table":

Here is the list of places from table five:
Chicken: 24, 30, 31, 37, 39, 40
Ribs: 4, 25, 28, 29, 35, 39
Pork: 22, 32, 36, 38, 39, 40
Brisket: 7, 15, 36, 39, 40

It was clearly evident that anything that table 5 ate was not good. I have never gotten worse scores than I received from them. It was clear that all of the judges were on the same page to, sure would be nice to see a comment card for the scores they gave. Of course there hands would cramp for all the cards they would have filled out.

Congrats to all the brethren who heard their names. It was a great time. Good weather, good friends, that's what it's all about. Big shout out to the fairgrounds and chamber of commerce for a well run event. Maybe we can talk them into 50 teams next year.

This is total hearsay, but I heard from a fellow competitor that one judge stopped by and told him (in reference to the table he judged) that based on the six pork boxes he tasted the Health Dept. should've been contacted. I'm not endorsing that comment, nor am I passing any judgment on whether that was a funny/appropriate/fair/misinformed thing to say. Again, it's hearsay, and I have no idea what table he was on. So take it with a grain of salt.

I was told by a judge they were short on judges, how short i do not know, but some table captains did double duty, judging and captain, not sure how short they were or if that could effect bringing in the public to score?

In any event, the cream rises and good teams won, this was our second trip into va, apparently some of our flavors do not travel, lol
I wish i could say i had a bad cook but we liked what we turned in, judges didnt, if we continue this marry go round, we have to do better.

Congrats to kit, he is on a roll wish i could cook with him, perhaps i could learn somethings!

We had a good year for us, and to keep it in the top ten, with some poor scores, just means everyone had some troubles.

Tables can and do bite, unfortunately luck is involved with a lot of skill...

Table 1 rewarded good q with 3 of the 4 top scores for the day, we never got table 1 we got table 2 not a high scoring table twice, not sure why? but we didnt get table 5 thank goodness...

Yes sir Eric you had a good year! What's the difference between the first two months of the year and the last four for me? I think it's just little things. This is probably gonna sound crazy, but two-three minutes in the last half hour of he chicken cook as well as one tweak to pork and brisket is all that changed. Keep consistent and hope for favorable judging. And keep my Weird Beard Crew on speed dial.

Congrats to Kit and Jay ... They are always two of the teams that makes us say, "Oh crap" when we look at the team roster prior to a competition ... Not that they aren't great guys to hang out with ... But dang they are also great cooks!

We had a good time at Woodstock, first time there. Big thanks to Pop Pop's for the great chicken feast Friday night, and thanks for not judging me for going in for a second chicken half!! This was a fun season finale for us after a record breaking 15 comps (13 KCBS) for 2013. All that and still no GC!!! Now we are determined!

Great to see everyone and already looking forward to 2014.

As much as I wanted to give you ALL the mojo back from the mug, I did give you all the BRISKET mojo. See my brisket score for proof! Great season guys and come back stronger than ever next year!
