Meh. I wouldn't say Jackson is a hellhole. In fact, it would be better than the Gulf Coast if it were as close to New Orleans as the Coast is. Tons of places to eat, art, concerts......definitely not a hellhole, and I hate Mississippi, in general. I've also never felt threatened or felt like I needed a gun there. I have been visiting and have had family there my whole forty five years, so I'm not just an occasional passer through.
