I saw a story about metal from grill grate brush it it was one i used. never saw any bristles on my grill. After i read the story i looked under my grate and i was horrified to see many!

So what do you use to scrub your grill?

Wooden paint stir stick or a deer scapula for quick cleanup.
I go to the cleaning crew for the heavy cleanup.

I use the Alpha Grillers 18" Grill Brush, been very happy with it have yet to find metal on, under my grates or in my cook chamber.

For the porcelain-coated cast iron grates on the grill, I use the grill brush with the stiff plastic bristles. For the stainless steel grates, I use steel wool or the green scrub pads and lots of water to rinse. I've also used the aluminum foil balls in a pinch.

If using metal bristle brushes, I now make sure all the fat is burned off, either with the grill or a torch, then brush off. Once all the grease is turned to dry carbon, there is less chance that a loose bristle will stick. I also do the heavy cleaning after a cook and wipe down and quick inspection before the next cook.

i havent tried the green pads yet. I'll try that. Also i like to clean then oil the grates after it cools down a bit to keep it from rusting.

For guys with the actual grillgrate brand grates how do you clean those. Seems like no matter what I do there is junk built up on them.

Anyone use the wood grill scrapers? Thoughts?

$34.95 for a piece of wood? A paint stir stick works, or a random piece of wood. The bars on the grill will do the important shaping, anyways.

I've seen numerous warnings on here about them brushes leaving wire bristles on the grates, but never had a problem with them. I generally change mine out before they get too far gone. I had one that I did let get in pretty bad shape, but I looked at the grate and food closely. At dinner time my 10yr old daughter found a wire on her food. Scared the heck out of me.

I now use these only:
