The Red White and BBQ in Westmont, IL was a great competition! The organizers always do a great job. Space was a little tight in some areas, but the fit 52 teams into Ty Warner Park this year.
Besides the normal KCBS categories they also held an Amateur Rib Competition that attracted 30 more teams and a People's Choice Chili competition on Saturday night to benefit the Lion's Club and the Jaycees and this year they added a dessert category.
We went through almost 5 gallons of brisket chili in the People's Choice and ended up with first place! I thought the girls of Cancer Sucks Chicago had the People's Choice all wrapped up since they were in their home town, so we were surprised to hear our name called! We also ended up with third place in the dessert category with a Warm Apple Cake.
Here are the complete KCBS results. Dr. Porkenstein won this event for the past three years but was unable to compete this year so a new champion was crowned. Congrats to Quau for breaking Dr. P's streak and congrats to Tim at Windy City Smokers for the reserve! Also congrats to the Smokin' Scotsmen for a great job in chicken and brisket (two in a row first place brisket for the Scotsmen!) and third overall.
They also gave out a special award for the highest placing team competing at Red White and BBQ for the first time and that award went to our own Divemaster at Stockcar BBQ!
