Got this load of shagbark hickory couple weeks ago. Got it for 20 bucks since I was working it up myself! All the small diameter limbs and such is being made into chunks! Just thought I'd share some pics since I don't have any cooks to share!

These are gonna be my Wood chunk containers! Drilled holes in them so Air can flow through it!

Oh man talk about saving money! A bag of hickory chunks at walmart is like 8 bucks for the big bag. I cut 2 limbs into rounds. What I have chunked already is at least 1 bag from walmart!

Yeah brother you hit the motherload score right there.

Awesome score right there...not sure if you've split that stuff before but you're gonna hate life with an axe. I just score two whole freshly cut trees from a lot that's being cleared near me. After splitting some in the past, I'll be renting a splitter. That stuff is HARD.

Only thing I'm splitting will be the 2-3 big logs. the rest is getting cut 1-2 inch thick then cut into chunks. I sit my butt on a log with a taller log in front of me. Nice place to cut the chunks with a hatchet :D

Not so sure if i stated this above. the stack of logs in the far back is Red oak that I need to finish splitting! That wasn't included with the hickory!

Awesome score!! I overheard one of the people at work the other day mentioning that they were cutting back their apple tree. I made sure to let them know I just made a fresh batch of the sauce they like,,,,, the wood is supposed to be here Monday!!

That's good wood you have there, blaze.....I wouldn't put it in those barrels until it was nice and dry....sunlight and moving air is best.....moldy wood sucks!

That's what I'm hoping the holes in the cans will help prevent. Now I can't say it will work but hopefully it does. ha-ha. I drilled a few extra holes after I loaded one of them up. Filled a whole can with 2 limbs. I say I'll have enough chunks to last me through next year!

Thanks tho, I'll make sure I keep an eye on them within the next few weeks and see if I screwed it all up :thumb:

I have a good question on this topic. For those who cut their own chunks, How big do you normally cut your chunks? Only thing I'd use them in is the WSM. Or maybe use the bigger chunks in the offset to mix wood flavors.

Fist size

When I get logs to big to be "chunks", I just cut and leave as 3" disks and as needed, I'll use a hatchet to split the disk into split chunks how ever big I'm feeling that cook
