Some of you may have followed starting this in the Woodpile. Is officially mine now so moving it to QTalk.

I found a 4 year old Lang on Craigslist about 5 miles from me. First Lang I've seen in a year of looking. Guy didn't take great care of it and stopped cooking on it when his kids moved out. He's moving to a condo so I took it off his hands.

Moving this beast was a pain. Wheelbase was too wide for the uhaul ramp so I had to engineer a slide with a piece of plywood.

Got it positioned in the backyard, it has a fair amount of rust and old grease. He even left ash in the firebox. Who knows how long it's been there.

Gave it a quick hit with a wire brush attachment on my drill. Plan to do this more thoroughly and then paint with high heat paint. Today the goal is to knock the rust off, vacuum it out. Run it up to 300 and spray it out..rinse repeat.

Got it running pretty well. Surprised how long it took to come up to heat. 1/4 inch steel takes a while. Going to have to build a bigger fire to start.

Now it's running TBS and almost ready for the first Fatty. That's all I have time for today.

I was gonna scream "FIRE THAT MOTHER UP!!!!"

But ya done did!

Nice score!

Congratulations on what I assume was a great buy! Rest assured that in my part of the world that pit in that condition would probably sell for $3500!!!

After a little while the wife says...as long as the smoke is rolling...how bout we stay in for dinner. What else can you throw on.

Hmmm.....have a pork tenderloin in the freezer...pull it...quick partial thaw in the sink. Rub it up with BBQWizards Pot Belly Pork Rub. On the smoke.

Not to be nosy but did you get for $900? As long as both parties are happy it's a good deal.:thumb:

Two of my all time favorites on a smoker. Pork T loin and fatty. Oh yeah you did real good brother.

Lang is in the top echelon of cookers. Certain parts I miss, e.g. The stack, the warmer with damper. Nice pickup, they make some of the best Que around :)

Definitely not a Shirley. Was hoping to hold out...but couldn't pass this up. Welds are sloppy. After seeing Paul's pictures of his guys laying stacks of dimes...they could teach the Lang guys a thing or two.

But it's still a great smoker and I'm happy to have it!

$950.. Heck yeah..... I would have taken that deal too. It will be around an awful long time will make your house the place of envy when that thing starts whisping out the wonderful smokey aroma.

when I was looking at a stick burner I was going to buy a Lang but I came across the very first Shirley website with this father and son pit company and I was sold . It was a done deal after that and there is no comparison in which one just because of the custom features I could get . I love Lang smokers but it is not a custom cooker built exactly for you and built more towards everyone without changing the design of the cooker all the time . I want a Lang 36 cooker to put on my back deck if one ever comes for same around where I live .

Very nice find and happy to see that a great smoker that was intended to cook great food will continue to do so. Congrats.
