amateur events

Could somebody tell me if there are any amateur events in NY

There should be listings on the Iowa BBQ Society website. I think there will be 4 this year.
Ed

There are more than four in Iowa, just four sponsored by the IBS. Southeast Iowa has a entire summer circuit that is a real fun time to participate in. First one is sponosred by Faith's Cigar Store in Ft. Madison, Iowa.

I sometimes think a backyard takes more cooking skill than the pro series.

The southeast Iowa cooks, they provide the meat for you . They say here is your brisket, make it taste amazing. here are your ribs, here is your chicken, and oh-yea, cook one other meat of your choice and see what you can do with it. The cooks get no choice of the size of the meat, the fat content, the marbling, nothing. It is purely about how well you can Q.

No picking through cases of ribs, no chicken fresh off the farm. No mail-ordered brisket.

A hometown event that is fun to do, also tells you what time you have to prep your meat. for instance mine was 6:00-6:45. I had to have brisket trimmed, injected, ribs trimmed, and chicken trimmed in 45 minutes, at 6:45 it went back into my tubs and placed in the cooler for the night. That was another neat feature, the cooler was not unlocked until midnight.

Atlanta, Georgia:
