Hey all! I recently broke my salt mill (crappy plastic internals) and the pepper mill is nothing to write home about; it takes a really long time to grind pepper onto both sides of four steaks. And my wrists are worn out by the end! Have you all got good pepper mills? I think perhaps something with a crank rather than a spin-top would be so much better. There is a thread from seven years ago about pepper mills, but I can't help but think that there may have been some innovations since then.

Would be most grateful for your wisdom, dear Brethren!

I use a Turkish coffee mill to grind pepper and love it. My mill is 25 years old and never any issues. Brass internals push the price to $100 but I consider it cheap since I do not think I will ever break it.

I got this one on a recommendation. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001CDP6EE/ezpeppermills-20"]Amazon.com: OXO Good Grips Pepper Grinder: Pepper Mills: Kitchen & Dining@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31euuV4CZ6L.@@AMEPARAM@@31euuV4CZ6L[/ame]
I actually bought mine at Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati.

I got a good grinder several years back from Penzey Spices, well made and reasonably priced.

I've had this one for about 5 years and no problems.

Unicorn rock. Easy to adjust grind size and each twist grinds a lot. Better than any other expensive fancy grinders I've tried from high end stores.

I have bad wrists, so moved away from the traditional style grinders to the one with an arm. This is a cheap one that I've really liked. You can grind a lot of pepper fairly quick and it can go from fairly fine to pretty coarse.

I've made a lot of peppermills and use the Crush Grind mechanisms. Ceramic, ratcheting and adjustment is on the bottom. Make a nice clean mill. Crush Grind mills come with a 20 year warranty.

I recommend Perfex salt and pepper mills. Can be used for other spices too. You can find them on Amazon among other retailers.

I use a Hario ceramic coffee mill skerton. Amazon has them for $30-35, it works very well easy to adjust the grind size.

Have been through a bunch of pepper mills because I was looking for a good salt grinder. Kuhn Rikon is the best I've found for salt, pepper, and spices. The ones I have are maybe 8 years old and they have since changed the design. Mine are loaded through a small plug in the bottom. New ones load from the top but have the same quality adjustable ceramic grinding innards.

If the KR mills ever break for some reason I will not hesitate to order new ones. They will do any grind you want.

I have Peugeot salt and peppers mills, both more than 15 years old and they works as well now as they did when I bought them.

From the last testing by America's Test Kitchen in 2013. Their 1996 & 2007 champ was the Unicorn Magnum Plus Pepper Mill.

I gave up trying to find a good pepper mill. Now I just grind what I need in the spice grinder.
