Alternate Prime Rib Options

Thanks for the replies everyone, I am going to talk to the butcher later today.

My wife went to the local butcher today to price bone in prime rib for approximately 15 people for Christmas dinner. She was quoted a price of $300 which is way to expensive. It was suggested to go for filet mignon, $120 price cut. I don't want to go with the filet because I don't want to cook it hot and fast in the PBC. I was looking to experiment with prime rib. Is there a cut of beef that is cheaper and I could cook similar to prime rib on the PBC?

Butchers in NJ are thieves. I know because I live here. Who would think you would go to Manhattan to find better pricing but thats what I do for my "special cuts".

Everything else its RD

I'm on a tighter budget this year and I'm planning on doing a tri-tip. Last time I looked they were really nice looking over at Costco!
Nothing wrong with a tri-tip. If it is cooked and sliced right it is very tender, juicy, and flavorful.
