Let's talk knife rolls/cases

I have this one and am pretty happy with it. I like the zippered compartment for injector needles and chicken skin pins.

Yeah I was going to do the, too, bludawg, but I want something mobile for hauling to comps and such.

I have one that looks just like the one in your link. Have used it for many years for mobile stuff. Still good. Listen to Landarc. The blade guards are very important.

That actually sounds good for the price point. Agree with the blade gaurds for sure. Unless you know a seamstress that can custom make you one, I think that would be a tough price to beat.

The blade guards are not only good to keep you from cutting yourself, but good for protecting the knives from coming in contact with each other. This can damage that razor sharp edge you worked so hard to achieve faster than trying to cut a fire brick in half. You can buy guards, or make some out of old milk jugs if you are "crafty"!

Blessings,

Omar

^ Omar, when you make your own out of old milk jugs, etc., do you keep them on the knife with elastics? I've never seen a blade guard but they make sense. Do you have photos? I'll be assisting some chefs next year in an outdoor food festival, I'll be bringing knives and am starting to think about how I want to transport them. I sew and have a machine so I'll make the pouch myself.

I fully agree with landarc on this.

Get the blade guards right away then use the roll.

Want a pro tip that was learned the hard way?

Always use blade guards, no matter how durable/thick/cut-proof the material, always use blade guards.

Anyone have a suggestion for a roll that will hold a 14" slicer?

Sage advice. I lost a guard catering a wedding a couple of years ago and put one of my Shun's naked in the knife bag. Two weeks later, I was moving fast as I was catering a rehearsal dinner at a remote location.

In my haste, I stuck my hand in my knife bag to retrieve a knife and I farking cut my thumb to the bone. :twitch:

It ain't good when a black guy can see white :becky:

Cathy, you can glue the edges together, or you can sew them after gluing if you want to. I just glue mine, but if you can sew the joints also, all the better. Hope this helps!

Omar

I got this knife bag when it was on sale for $24

I came in here to post this. I've got the scars to prove why.
