Purged tank. Cut out gauges and valves. Patched tank.

Marked and cut to attach firebox.

Next I marked and cut the top line of doors.

Marked and cut the rest of the door lines. I usually leave the bottom corners attached and let everything cool to help the doors not spring when I cut them loose. Probably less important with steel this thick and with the plasma cutter. It doesn't put near as much heat into the steel as a torch.

Why so Big?

Well first, this is Texas! ;)

I have been catering some and having to borrow a friend's pit. Really wanted my own large pit.

Plus, the local propane service sells condemned tanks for $100 regardless of size and all they had was 500gal tanks.

It has to be worth more than that in scrap! And makes for a pretty inexpensive pit given the size.

What are the dimensions of the tank? I just picked one up as well, but mine was a water tank, 84" x 30" dia. Curious as to how big yours is, since the guy didn't know how many gallons of water it held. I'm definitely watching this thread.

What are your overall design goals? Reverse flow?
