Hotel recommendations in Austin

My wife and I are thinking of taking a trip to Austin for our anniversary. Will probably go in mid November. Will of course want to visit some of the bbq spots. Does anyone have recommendations for a nice hotel or BB that won't break the bank? Also would you suggest we rent a car based on your hotel recommendation. Thanks for any suggestion you may have.

We did Air BnB last time and it worked out great, so that might be worth a look.

Driskill Hotel is really nice, but expensive. So is the Stephen F. Austin hotel.

I stayed at the Fairfield Inn off Interstate 35 a couple years ago. Nice, clean, reasonable. Had a rental car I drove up from Houston, left it at the airport on my way out. Dollar rent a car I think.

When I read this I figured it was $6 million dollars a night and then I kept hearing that slow motion bionic sound in my head.

We stayed here for four nights in April. http://www.hillsidecabin.com/rates.htm. It is just at the edge of Austin. It was very private. We would stay again. Close to Salt Lick. We made day trips to San Antonio and Lockhart.

The cabin has a charcoal grill that has seen better days but did stand up for grilling two more nice steaks.

I've stayed a couple times at the Microtel Austin airport. It was fairly new, clean and very reasonable.
