Has anybody used ash to smoke with? I scored a ton, literally, so I was wanting to know if it would be ok to use.
Thanks!!

It is fine to use.
dont need drying as it has a low water content even when fresh cut.

only hard wood you can cut and burn in the wood stove same day :)

I wouldn't use it for smoking chunks but IMO it's good for stick burners, I've used it quite a bit but think other woods burn longer. It seems to burn hot for sure.

I've used it in my wsm...it's a pretty neutral smoke, kinda general hardwoodsy if you know what I mean. It seasons quickly and is a good btu wood. I generally send all the ash I get through the woodstove, just because there are other woods I always have on hand that I prefer for smoking.

It burns fine.

If you are using in a WSM--use a lot. It really is like alder/very very faint oak.

It's a good taste but very generally smoky--no pungency like pecan and no fruit wood character like apple/cherry.
