I have really enjoyed using the pit barrel cooker. I can smoke anything in there and honestly it's been great. I cook other things on the cast iron indoors and it's ok but I need a grill. I am debating getting a Weber kettle of some kind vs a lower priced Kamado. I can see using the Kamado to smoke but the PBC does work well. A nicer kettle setup is just a bit cheaper than the Akorn. The Kamado at Costco is in budget. But would I want to spend that much more? I was planning on mostly grilling. Firing it up for steaks burgers etc. I was thinking a gasser but I just don't like the way the food turns out.

I love my kamado (Grilla Grills Kong) but for pure grilling I agree with the other posters in here and would go with a 22" Weber kettle, or the Performer setup if you have the budget.

One more for the Weber Kettle. It's the multi-tool of grills.

I will let a pic of my cookers speak for itself. :becky:

Ok just to be clear, get the Weber! :thumb:

Akorn. I was up to 4 kettles and 2 wsm's at one time and considered myself a weber guy. The akorn changed that. The akorn is cheap when compared to ceramics, insulated compared to a kettle, the accessories are reasonably priced, and they cook a mean pizza.

Also I love our blackstone pizza grill but I miss pizza on the acorn. It was amazing.

Well it seems overwhelmingly it's the Weber kettle. The performer series can get expensive but aside from the table is there any difference from the master touch?

I picked up a performer w/ cover only used a couple of times a few years back from CL for $150, used it heavily for two years and still sold it for $150. CL is your friend IMO and can't beat a kettle for grilling among other things.

Great advice on looking at CL. I'll look at the links you posted. Thank you for your advice.

Oooh - the gas assist seems very cool. Does it cut down in the time to get the charcoal going?

Being frugal, I like the ceramics consistent ability to snuff out a fire and conserve charcoal.

I loved the gas assist and used it every time. Light the assist for about 5 mins with the charcoal on top or chimney and that's it. Def was a plus for me and well worth it.
