The SEXY Bandera that is, the cooker that got this whole train a'rollin'. Unboxed this lovely creature...assembly on Sunday and seasoning likely on Monday evening after the RTV cures.

Bored at work, so thinking about stuff. Ordered 2 River Country 3" thermometers with 4" stems and 13/16" thread...will hafta bore a hole down low for the 2nd one.
Am contemplating a fire basket in case I wanna catch some Z's on a long brisket cook...the fire grate is 15 3/8 x 16...wondering if I should make it 14 x 12 x 6 or stick with the perceived OKJ standard 12 x 10 x 6...also if I should make some dividers for snake or just go regular minion top to bottom...

Any thoughts?

I'd get it together n see - go biggest charcoal basket that would fit And be easy to take in and out. . A maze probally wouldn't get it hot enough - probally need more charcoal burning at once....but I dunno.

Assembling the wheels n legs to the base...on the den floor. Wife was ok with it...she was less ok with it when the axle refused to hit the hole opposite me and I had her on the floor with a light in the hole to tell me left, right up n down! Pics will be forthcoming...assembling some of the smaller components tonight and will stick the firebox to the cabinet tomorrow...since no one wants to come out at 11pm and help. Perhaps I need new friends?!

Got the base assembled, stack on the cabinet, handle on the fb lid, handle and damper on the fb door. Before you ask, Smitty, I don't know why I RTV'ed the stack...I just did! Couldn't do a lot more...could have installed the rails for the cooking grate in the fb, but I am contemplating just sticking the bolts in the holes and RTV-ing them closed...no need for the rails if I don't intend to grill. The rails are 1" each at front and back...which means I can make my fire basket 2" wider without them. Basket will be 15x13x7 with...15x15x7 without.

Should have been done by now, fencing wire and duct tape.:becky:
seems your over complicating it mate.

Nah...didn't get home from work til 10pm...firebox is a bit too heavy for me to hold while trying to get the bolts through the holes and the nuts on. Got my cousin coming tomorrow to help me wrap it up. Not in as big of a hurry like the spectators seem to be. :p

Many of those instruction sheets for smokers, storage buildings etc *strongly recommend* using 2 people. Some of it you can "MANage" by your self but mostly they know what they are talking about. Waiting for help is often best- then if something goes south, you can blame it on them :-D

All I can hear is Lauren Hill singing "killing me softly with his build".

I say use your auto floor jack and a board and get that firebox on. And put the dome lid in the recycle bin and get a flat lid.

I used redneck ingenuity to get the firebox on...I do own cinder blocks ya know! It was getting the thing upright, on the base and the holes lined up that required a second set of hands.

If you were older, it'd be Roberta Flack in your head singing that song...and better IMO :)

Done for now. Waiting on the thermometers I ordered and planning to order 2 more grates. Waiting for my buddy to get back in town to build a fire basket...he has all the FREE materials I need at his shop. RTV needs 24 hours to cure so I will be running my first fire tomorrow after I get home from work...7:30-ish.
