Heading to Portland, OR to see the last ever Richmond Fontaine show. The best band that no one ever heard about. (seriously, if you like wilco, uncle tupelo, americana punk rock, songs about bad times, you must, must give them a listen).

Who's got some recommendations for places to eat/check out? I eat literally everything and money is not really a factor (although I don't like throwing it away . Definitely doesn't have to be bbq. Thanks in advance brothers and sisters for any recommendations.

I ate at a place called "Podnah's Pit" a year or so ago. Kinda pricey, and like pricey BBQ spots seem to be - the meats are OK and the sides are what's really good. It was fine. I'd probably go back if I didn't know of any other spot to check out, which, at the moment, I don't. Long story short - not amazing, but not bad - it'll work. IIRC the waitresses were rather attractive, which is always nice.

Pretty much EVERYTHING there is great. No chain restaurants and even your basic breakfast spot is trying to outdo everyone else with fresh, local ingredients. If you stay downtown ride the train everywhere. If you're a fan of fried chicken on a giant homemade biscuit try Pine State Biscuits http://www.pinestatebiscuits.com/ If you are there over the weekend check out the coolest farmers market ever on PSU campus http://www.portlandfarmersmarket.org/our-markets/psu/ or Slappy Cakes http://slappycakes.com/ and please go check out the food truck scene downtown, it's out of control! Also the People's Pig has Smoked, Fried Chicken and decent BBQ with very interesting sides. http://www.peoplespig.com/

Now I want to go to Portland!!!

Thank you very much! I'm staying right by PSU so definitely will check out farmers market.

When I was at the Farmer's Market last year they had at least three charcuterie booths with amazing locally made sausages and cured meats. Also many fine cheese suppliers, and a couple of folks making Canadian Meat pies. They also have a big movement in micro-distilleries in town, just like beer 15 years ago. I wish I lived in Portland!

Agreed on podnahs - we were there a couple weekends ago and I got the sampling plate again and the wife got the smoked prime rib. Both were just top notch.

Pine state buscuits is really good for breakfast, get the Reggie :thumb:

I was there for a week last month. Most of the food was fine but not memorable. The last night I went to Lechon. Prices were quite reasonable and the food was quite tasty. I was there with a friend and we were going to order an appetizer and two main courses. The waiter actually discouraged us, saying it might be too much food. We ordered it anyway. It was too much food, but quite good.

We had cheeks for appetizers, ribs and lechon. It was the by far the best meal I had in Portland. The food trucks were impressive and fine for what they offered.

Goldies BBQ in Vancouver. Kids live out there and we have eaten there. Very good Q.

Being from Chicagoland, I always love to eat fresh seafood when I get to the coasts. I was in Portland for my cousins wedding about 12 years ago. What I remember is great coffee, great craft beers and most importantly the seafood. I can't remember the name of the restaurant but it had at least 8 to 12 variations of clams. In Chicago, you order clams you get what you get. Have a great time.

More than one Portland, I'm partial to Maine.

I was looking forward to telling you about a Q-joint that I hit just outside Portland, but then I realized that you were talking about OR not ME.
"Buck's Naked BBQ" in ME is quite the place, not necessarily for the Q, but the souvenirs are worth the stop!
