Birthday wishes for a 73 year young father in law....Prime Rib!

Well deserved, bet he's got some great stories.

My dad was in the AF as was my son, they don't give out those 5 stars very easily!

Interesting!

Prime looks great! Can't wait to see it!

Along another line, the 5th star is...Wow material!!

Just a quick Wiki on it.

For those working on a retirement, these gentlemen have been granted full Active Duty pay....For life! Awesome!

Thanks for that info. Very cool stuff! When he retired you would not believe what we all learned about his military life.

Amazing and happy bday to the FIL. Can't really refuse to pretty much anything a 5 star general says anyway. :becky:

Not to cut too fine a point

When your soon to be 73 years young 5 star Air Force General, father-in-law asks you to smoke prime rib for his birthday, well, you just do it. ;)

But there are no living 5 star Air Force Generals with last being Hap Arnold. Perhaps your fil is a Lt General or even a full General, 4 stars although there haven't been many of them.

Personally, I reached the exalted rank of E 4 in the Navy and shared every minute of it but especially the 13 mos spent in a jungle.

Time to rest! I started the cooker at 225 using oak and pecan, and cooked it to 80 degrees before bumping the temp to 300 to pushed it through to 120.

You are correct. I was corrected at dinner that he was a 4 star, my mistake. Either way the man has earned it for sure. Seriously one of the coolest and most fascinating guys I know. And, don't mess with him!

what temp are you smoking this at? About how long has it been on thus far?
Started at 225, then bumped to 275 to finish. It took 3.5 hours to get to 120 degrees.

Cost wise? Retail $13.49lb here. Cooking, 12-15 minutes per pound at a cooking temp of 225-250.
